City of Edmonton - Beginner Acryllics Class

Last fall, I registered for a painting class with the City of Edmonton, which reignited my passion for painting. It had been quite some time since I had indulged in this creative pursuit, apart from participating in online COVID paint nights with friends - a wonderful way to virtually socialize. Encouraged by the class, I dedicated time to my artwork and even invested in medium-ish-quality paints and a convenient bag for easy access to my supplies. Here is a glimpse of the artwork that emerged from the class and I linked the website below if anyone is intrested in discovering what city of edmonton offers.

The Experience

The painting class I attended was designed for beginners, as the name suggests. We covered fundamental topics such as the color wheel, color mixing techniques, and the concept of warm and cold colors. The focus was on learning and experimenting with still life subjects and creating impressions of calendar prints.

One of the best aspects of the class was the relaxed and inclusive atmosphere. Participants came from diverse backgrounds and age groups, creating a supportive environment where there was no pressure to be perfect. Our instructor, Erika Germain, was fantastic in her approach. As primarily an abstract artist herself, she allowed everyone to paint freely while offering gentle suggestions and encouragement along the way.
